The Sandbox is a global community dedicated to supporting virtual artists and creators. We believe that the culture of creativity is a cornerstone of the open metaverse and take time to engage in and help grow the Web3 ecosystem to benefit those who are a part of it.

To further this objective, we’ve purchased several popular memecoins, including $PEPE, $SHIB, $MEME, $DEGEN, $DOGE, and $BONK. The purchase of these coins will help support their specific communities, increase our presence in Web3 culture, and provide utility to both our users and the wider memecoin collective.

Memecoins

Memecoins are cryptocurrencies inspired by internet memes, characters, or trends. Supported by enthusiastic online groups, they are typically designed to be light-hearted and fun. Memecoins have gained significant visibility in recent years, largely due to endorsements from high-profile individuals and their role in digital culture. Our purchase of these memecoins demonstrates our commitment to staying on top of industry trends and Web3 culture.

The Sandbox Memecoin Collection

Our current memecoin collection now consists of the following:

  • $PEPE: Perhaps one of the most exciting memecoins on the list due to recent growth activity, $PEPE is a memecoin introduced on the Ethereum blockchain. This cryptocurrency pays homage to the “Pepe the Frog” internet meme, which gained widespread popularity in the early 2000s. As a deflationary memecoin, $PEPE employs mechanisms to decrease the total supply of coins over time.
  • $DOGE: Created in 2013 as a lighthearted cryptocurrency based on the popular “Doge” internet meme featuring a Shiba Inu dog, Dogecoin is often considered one of the earliest and most prominent memecoins due to its humorous origins and strong community following. It epitomizes what it means to be a memecoin.
  • $SHIB: Inspired by the same dog DOGE was based on, Shiba Inu was created anonymously in 2020. It was built to answer the question: “What would happen if a cryptocurrency project was 100 percent run by its community?” As it turns out, the answer is a global phenomenon. SHIB now has its own growing ecosystem, including LEASH and BONE.
  • $BONK: The first Solana-based dog coin, $BONK is self-described as “of the people.” 50% of the total supply was distributed via airdrop to the Solana community in December 2022. The creators of BONK sought to create an enjoyable memecoin offering equal opportunities to everyone. The result has been the most widely held dog-themed cryptocurrency on the Solana blockchain.
  • $MEME: Nothing says memecoin like a memecoin named “meme”! $MEME acts as the primary currency on the Meme.com platform, which thrives on providing a platform for memes through Memetic Asset mTokens (mTokens). Users can utilize Memecoin for generating, exchanging, and trading mTokens, each representing distinct memes.
  • $DEGEN: Originally conceived as a reward token for members of the Farcaster Degen channel, $DEGEN has garnered a significant following among developers, crypto content creators, and enthusiasts alike. At its inception, 15% of the total supply was distributed via airdrop to active participants of the Farcaster’s Degen channel, with future intentions to airdrop 70% of the token’s overall supply.

What’s Next?

The varied landscape represented by the six memecoins above exemplifies our dedication to fostering inclusivity and unity within our platform’s community. As we move forward, we plan to use our memecoin collection to launch engaging initiatives that create additional utility for both our users within The Sandbox and the broader memecoin community.

Stay tuned for more soon!
