More Responsive, Expressive Gameplay

Across The Sandbox, avatar animations are new and improved in almost every way. From how the character walks to how they turn on a dime, every movement feels more responsive and lifelike.

Improvements to the Camera System allow it to follow a player’s avatar more closely and work better in tight spaces, auto-correcting to ensure it’s placed for optimal view no matter where a player goes. Camera Occlusion lets a player see a rendered silhouette of their avatar when moving behind objects, ensuring clarity while the camera seamlessly maintains its proper distance.

The New Avatar Shadow creates drop shadows to simulate a consistent top-down light source, giving players precise feedback — crucial for landing exactly where they intend to in platforming experiences. To further enhance platforming, we’ve introduced Edge Recovery, which allows avatars to grab onto the edge of a platform even if their jump wasn’t perfectly timed, providing a safety net that makes platforming more forgiving when a player is close but not quite on target. Additionally, Coyote Time gives players a brief window to jump after stepping off a ledge, ensuring smoother and more responsive gameplay.

These enhancements streamline gameplay like never before, making it the perfect time to own an avatar in The Sandbox. Explore our collections now on The Sandbox Marketplace!

More Competitive Multiplayer Experiences

With the 0.11 release, multiplayer in The Sandbox is more competitive, dynamic, and engaging than ever. Whether it’s high-speed races or intense team battles, playing and competing with friends now offers even more excitement. Imagine a game where a player must cross a river of molten lava by jumping on floating platforms that rotate clockwise before the timer runs out. With new features like Rotate Behavior, obstacle courses and paths become more challenging, as creators can now dynamically rotate game elements around their axis or a designated pivot point.

Competition requires keeping score and with Team Scores, games can now track each team’s progress and display them so players can easily see where they stand in the ranking.

Of course, no multiplayer game is complete without the ability to claim victory. Players can now expect to see games where an experience can be won by a single player, a team of players, or every player using the Victory Types feature in the Victory Component.

Quests now leverage a more secure multiplayer Objective System to further our anti-cheat efforts including improving our anti-cheat data collection to root out bad actors. Combined, these changes will make it harder for nefarious actors to cheat on our platform, ensuring a level playing field.

More experiences will leverage the revamped Multiplayer Friendly NPC, paving the way to more unique and immersive gameplay for players as non-playable characters respond intelligently within multiplayer experiences, offering smoother interactions. For instance, a flock of chickens might flee as players approach them on a farm, or a group of thugs might attack players when they step into their territory in a city.

And finally, we’ve also boosted CPU and Network performance in multiplayer experiences by more than 15% and improved stability while managing to decrease the load times for all experiences, letting players jump into their favorite games faster than ever.

More Customization

Players can expect to see a more customized in-game interface that varies depending on the context. These slots will change depending on where players are in the game and what elements are most important — such progression bar or score counter. This creates a gaming environment that seamlessly aligns with the narrative.

Creators can apply diamond or square styles to HUD slots and set value states that can be triggered by other rules to change color depending on the value of the variable in the slot. By doing this, creators can hint to players when they need resources and more. Value states can also be used to adjust HUD slot colors from the default blue to help with readability.

To make switching between different games even easier, the new Controls at a Glance feature helps players quickly understand key inputs by displaying a HUD overlay during gameplay. To access, press “^” to open the Controls screen and then click the “Extra” tab.

More Immersion

With the 0.11 update, games will continue to offer more varied and personalized experiences. Jumping into a racing game? With the Custom Avatars at Spawn feature, avatars can now automatically be suited up in different teams’ jerseys, allowing for more immersion.

Game themes and settings will continue to become more varied as creators implement free in-game assets from our partners like Atari, Care Bears, BLOND:ISH, and more.

More Personalization

Players can now personalize their experience like never before. Equip, store, and name their gear in custom groups called Outfits, making it easy to save and quickly switch between different equipment combinations during gameplay.

Additionally, players now have the ability to rate, bookmark, and replay experiences directly from the Session Ending screen upon completing the game. Bookmarked experiences will appear in a new section within the Experiences Gallery, making it easier to revisit their favorite adventures.

More Ways to Search & Discover

The Map Carousel now showcases up to 20 featured experiences, making it easier to discover standout content directly within the game. Each experience is accompanied by detailed Game Cards, providing useful information on each game to help players decide what part of The Sandbox Map they want to travel to next.

And So Much More!

These are just a few of the exciting updates in The Sandbox Game Client 0.11. With every release, we take another step toward our vision of a vibrant, social gaming metaverse where creators and players can build, explore, and connect in new and exciting ways.

These improvements don’t just enhance the Game Client; they empower the player community to do more on our platform. The advancements in avatar movement, platforming, and multiplayer open the door for more complex, challenging, and engaging experiences that players will love. Future updates will introduce persistence, matchmaking, new combat systems, and even mounting mechanics for vehicles and creatures.

Our product is designed to enable the building of a metaverse filled with diverse experiences, and this is just the beginning. The Sandbox map continues to grow, with thousands of experiences waiting to be discovered, and we call upon all players to explore it.
